Dr. Leah Pride
Dr. Leah D. Pride is a graduate of Port Richmond High School (Class of 1998). She began her career in education in 2008. Dr. Pride is committed to empowering ALL students to see themselves as scientists and to question the world around them. As a first, generation college graduate, Dr. Pride believes that mentorship is important and offers herself as a mentor to all students, particularly those who want to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Dr. Pride received an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Chemical Technology from New York City College of Technology (CUNY). She then went on to complete a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and a Master's Degree in Biochemistry from The City College of New York (CUNY). Dr. Pride worked as a Research Technician at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center before realizing her passion was to teach science within the New York City Department of Education. Dr. Pride went back to school to complete a Master's Degree in Education, concentrating on Middle and High School Science Education at Lehman College (CUNY). In 2018, Dr. Pride completed her Doctoral Degree in Urban Education from the CUNY Graduate Center and became the first person in her entire family to earn a Ph.D. Dr. Pride is honored to return "home" to Port Richmond High School where she hopes to give back to the community that has helped develop her into the scholar she is today.
