Programs
Med Tech students receive an enriched experience in varying aspects of medicine and health care fields including Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology and Medical Assisting. Students bridge the school-career transition by working with our partner programs at Richmond University Medical Center, Staten Island University Hospital, the Physician’s Assistant program at Wagner College and the New York Blood Center. Course Sequence Sophomores: Anatomy and Physiology Students learn about the structures and functions of the human body and perform multiple dissections including but not limited to the: eye, kidney, heart, and fetal pig. Juniors: Microbiology Students learn about the microbiome in and around us and practice clinical microbiology skills including sterile technique, microscope techniques, plating and culturing microorganisms and staining. Seniors: Medical Assisting Students become fully immersed in medical assisting procedures including patient intake, sterile technique, specimen handling, suturing, general physical exam and Wagner SIM Lab. Students completing the course sequence will be taking the Medical Assisting NOCTI Certification Exam at the end of their senior year. Students demonstrating proficiency will be eligible to take the full certification exam after they graduate.
